Song of the Week #8, May 11th

Traditional Asian Music: China

This video doesn't have any lyrics, but I challenge you to close your eyes as you listen and try to imagine what this song could be about.  This instrument is called a "guzheng", and may remind you of a guitar or a stringed instrument.  It is thousands of years old!

Song of the Week #7, May 4th

Musical Theatre/Broadway

Let's take a look at a different style of music this week : musical theatre! A musical is a play performed on a stage that involves singing and dancing.  Have you ever gone to one?  The musical "Into the Woods" has many fairytale characters mixed into one story.  This was made into a movie in 2014 with Anna Kendrick from Trolls!

Song of the Week #6, April 27th

Dueling Banjos

Steve Martin is a famous comedian/actor, but also plays in a really cool bluegrass band called the "Steep Canyon Rangers". American folk music uses instruments and sounds from our history, and often tells a story.  Bluegrass is a type of folk music, and can sound like country or even the blues.  It is Mrs. Cary's FAVORITE style!  Today, Steve is playing with a green puppet that you may recognize...!

Smile

This song was written in 1936 with just instruments, then words were added twenty years later.  Even though that was over seventy years ago, this song still makes sense in our world today!

November 11th , 9:00 a.m. - Veteran's Day Assembly

In class we have been working on learning verses 1 and 3 of America the Beautiful.

Below, you will find the lyrics. Happy practicing!

O beautiful for spacious skies,

For amber waves of grain,

For purple mountain majesties

Above the fruited plain!

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

And crown thy good with brotherhood

From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for heroes proved

In liberating strife.

Who more than self their country loved

And mercy more than life!

America! America!

God shed his grace on thee

And crown thy good with brotherhood

From sea to shining sea!
